Our favorite place in the neighborhood when we want to go out for a bite of food or a drink is Cedar Creek Brewery, located in Seven Points, just two miles from the house. Inside the brewery you also find Plowboys Cafe, serving pub food like burgers, hot dogs and salads.
Their burgers are our favorites. The burger patties are amazing, made from Weigu beef from a local farmer. You can get the burgers with several different kind of cheese, including ghost pepper cheese (recommended if you like spicy food). And their waffle fries are excellent!
Obviously you should pair your food with one of their crafts beers on tap, they have a wide variety to choose from based on your personal preference. You can also find their beer in some grocery stores in the DFW Metroplex.
Cedar Creek Reservoir is a reservoir located in Henderson and Kaufman Counties, Texas (USA), 60 miles (97 km) southeast of Dallas. It is built on Cedar Creek, which flows into the Trinity River. Floodwaters are discharged through a gated spillway into a discharge channel that connects to the Trinity River.
The predominant fish species of Cedar Creek Lake are Blue catfish, Channel catfish, Flathead catfish, Largemouth bass, White bass, Hybrid striped bass, and Crappie. The best fishing areas for Largemouth bass are in the southern portion of the lake, where the water is clearer, especially the southern third of the lake in the large coves and inlets. The lake’s record Largemouth bass weighed 14.65 pounds (6.52 kg). Catfish can be found everywhere, with more Blues than Channels. Fishing is particularly good in the spring and into summer. Due to the many smaller streams, creeks, and run-offs flowing into the lake, running jug lines in the channels of the many coves using goldfish, shad, and small sunfish makes for very good Blue catfish and Flathead (Yellow) catfish fishing grounds.
Here is a video we shot flying in over our cove towards the house. Enjoy!
It’s time to plan your summer vacations, and what is nicer than a week or a weekend at the lake with family and friends?
Perhaps go fishing, water skiing, tubing or something else? If you bring your own boat, we have a dock for you to use. You can also rent boats at several locations around the lake if you so wish.
The inflatable rowboat is perfect for paddling around the water when the water is calm and some light fishing. It has room for four people, an electric pump and fishing rod holders built in. It is located outside the house, adjaecent to the front screened in porch on the east side of the house. Look for the ‘swim at your own risk’ sign on the front of a brown wall. That wall is actually a camouflaged door to a shed that stores outdoor items. There’s a latch on the left side of that wall. Inside the shed is where the inflatable boat and pump is stored, along with its paddles.
Personal Flotation Devices (PFD)
Hanging in the front coat closet you will find personal flotation devices/life jackets. They are required for anyone going out on the water by the US Coast Guard. There are PFDs supplied for small children, youth and adults in that closet. Please return them to this spot so future guests can locate them.
